Arne Slot Insists He Is Secure and Has Liverpool's Backing After PSV Eindhoven Loss
Arne Slot admitted that it was understandable for concerns to be raised about his position following another convincing loss against the Dutch champions.
Liverpool suffered their ninth defeat in 12 matches, representing the club's poorest streak since being demoted in the 1953-54 season.
They were outplayed by the Dutch league title holders on a punishing evening at Anfield.
“I feel secure, I'm fine, I have got significant backing from management,” Slot stated.
“It would be nice to change things and secure a win obviously but if you are in a managerial role and not doing well then it's expected that people question you.”
He noted, “I am OK with my role. This isn't the first time I’ve been in a difficult position but it is about time that we changed our fortunes.”
Conversations with The Board
When asked to elaborate on his conversations with the team officials, the head coach explained:
“There's regular dialogue. They assist to the team and for me and we discuss these matters but they don’t call me every single minute each day to say they trust me.”
He further stated, “During our regular discussions I feel the confidence. However I've not talked to them since this game so far so let’s see.”
Recurring Problems and Squad Response
The manager lamented known weaknesses from his Liverpool side in their European defeat, namely wasted chances and defensive lapses.
Meanwhile, midfielder Curtis Jones was blunter in his assessment of the team's situation.
“I haven't got the answers. Truthfully, I do not. I'm telling that to all,” the midfielder stated.
“It’s just unacceptable. I don't need to wait to reflect. I'm beyond being angry inside. I've reached the stage now where I simply lack the vocabulary.”
He continued, “It's tough because I’m playing for the club I love. I’m a fan, and I've watched Liverpool all my life.”
“For many years, I've not seen a Liverpool team enduring a phase of this nature with results so bad.”
Jones concluded, “But we continue to wear the crest on our shirts. And as long as it is removed, we will always compete.”
“We will attempt to get this team return to the top, prove again what Liverpool stands for and the reason it's called the top club in the planet.”
“However currently, we’re in the shit and it must improve.”
