Canada's Blue Jays Earn Fall Classic Meeting Against Los Angeles Dodgers
The outfielder contributed to the Astros winning the championship in the 2017 season.
Canada's MLB team advanced to their first World Series following 1993 by defeating the Seattle Mariners in the final seventh game of the AL Championship Series.
Trailing three runs to one, outfielder George Springer smashed a three-run home run in the seventh frame, leading the only Canadian franchise in MLB to a four games to three win in the seven-game series. Awaiting them are the Los Angeles Dodgers, who are the reigning title, in the upcoming World Series.
"I'm thrilled for our team, our city, Canada," commented Springer, a key player of the Astros team that secured the 2017 title. "It's truly an unbelievable moment."
Springer has now connected for 23 playoff homers, making him third in history trailing only Ramirez (twenty-nine) and Jose Altuve (twenty-seven).
"It's hard to imagine another player anywhere that I want up in that spot besides him with his playoff prowess," said manager John Schneider.
Seattle's team, despite leading the series 2-0 and 3-2, remain the only MLB franchise never to appear in a World Series.
Mariners manager Dan Wilson stated "without a doubt that it's going to sting" in the wake of his side's defeat at their home ballpark, but praised their performance throughout the year.
"They're an exceptional squad. Unfortunately that we finished on the wrong side of the series," he added.
The Blue Jays secured the title on both previous visits in the early 90s, and will welcome the Los Angeles in game one on Friday.
