Followers Call for Custody of Person Who Grabbed Ariana Grande
Devoted fans of Ariana Grande are urging that a individual who leaped a fence and seized the performer during yesterday's Wicked: For Good premiere be taken into custody or expelled from Singapore.
A circulating video reveals the person identified as Johnson Wen pushing past camera operators and lunging at Grande while the actors proceeded down a yellow carpet flanked by fans.
Fellow actress Cynthia Erivo quickly wrested the shocked performer away from Mr Wen, who was seen being removed of the gathering by security officers.
Mr Wen stated on Instagram late on Thursday that he was "released after being taken in", though court documents showed that he was set to attend court on Friday morning. It is uncertain if he was faced legal action.
History of Incidents
This is part of a pattern for Mr Wen, who calls himself a "Troll Most Hated", has crashed a performance. His Instagram feed features recordings of him interrupting other high-profile occasions, including jumping on stage at Katy Perry's Sydney performance in earlier this year and in a like fashion during The Chainsmokers event in the same location last winter.
"There needs to be action applied against him as this is obviously a legal violation," commented an Instagram user, in a response to a video Mr Wen posted of his behavior.
"You've done this repeatedly... how are you not behind bars?" one Instagram user wrote.
Fans Express Concern Over Grande's Safety
Several supporters blamed Mr Wen for "causing further distress" Grande, who had revealed dealing with post-traumatic stress disorder after a devastating incident at the end of her spring 2017 concert in Manchester, killing 22 people and injuring numerous individuals.
"The star has endured numerous terrifying experiences... including the Manchester tragedy, and you believed breaching security was amusing?" commented one more comment on Instagram.
Some attendees also criticised security officers at the Thursday event for not being adequately prepared; while some called for social media platforms to ban Mr Wen's content.
Aftermath and Event Details
In footage shared widely, Grande appeared shocked when she was grabbed by the individual. Her cast members Michelle Yeoh and Erivo can be observed comforting her while Mr Wen was escorted away by guards.
Grande has not commented on the event, and the premiere activities proceeded as normal.
Hundreds of fans had congregated in a crowd of green and pink at the Wicked: For Good Asia-Pacific premiere in a Singapore mall, including several who had queued for as long as many hours before it started.
The movie, to be released on the 21st of November, is the second of a two-part adaptation of the acclaimed Broadway and West End musical Wicked, which revolves around the unexpected relationship between two very different characters.
The production itself is a adaptation of the classic story The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.
Grande, who acts as the good witch Glinda, was dressed in a champagne pink glittering gown at the premiere while Erivo, who portrays the wicked witch, wore a black tube gown decorated with roses.
They were accompanied by co-star Jeff Goldblum.
The first movie, Wicked, was the highest-grossing film of the previous year in the UK, and scored 10 Academy Award nods, earning a pair for excellent wardrobe and set decoration.
