Line of Duty Confirmed for 7th Season on the British Broadcaster
The beloved crime series Line of Duty will make a comeback for its 7th season, announced by the BBC.
A brand new six-episode season created by the show's creator will begin filming in Northern Ireland this spring, as confirmed by the network.
Vicky McClure shared her enthusiasm about the comeback, saying she was "so excited" about the series' return. Adrian Dunbar added, "How wonderful it is to know that the Three Amigos will be back filming together soon."
The last season wrapped up in 2021 with a finale that drew in more than 17 million viewers. Rumors about a potential return have been widespread ever since, but official word only came recently.
New Challenges for The Team
The seventh season will open with AC-12 having been disbanded and renamed as the new police oversight body, according to production details.
Martin Compston's character, Vicky McClure's role, and Ted Hastings continue tasked to combat corruption within the law enforcement.
Their work "faces unprecedented challenges", and under these circumstances, the trio will take on their "most delicate case so far."
Fresh Face and Complex Case
An additional officer, Det Insp Dominic Gough, portrayed as a charismatic officer celebrated for busts of criminal networks, is accused of misusing his authority to become a offender.
Yet, this investigation might serve as a intentional diversion from a bigger threat still operating in the shadows, plot details hinted.
Speaking about the renewal, the creator commented: "All cast and crew feels enormous gratitude to the dedicated viewers."
"It's an honor to have had so many followers watch the developments of AC-12 over six previous seasons and we couldn't be more delighted to be returning for a new installment."
He added: "Corruption in this country is supposed to have ended while Line of Duty was off air, so I've been compelled to use my imagination."
Cast Reactions
The Scottish actor described being part of the series as "a job of a lifetime".
"Beyond the program's popularity but the people I've collaborated with I now call dear friends."
"I can't wait to wear the uniform again and reunite with everyone," he added.
Vicky McClure remarked: "It goes without saying I'm very happy the show is back! Can't wait to work with the creator, Martin and Dunbar again. Belfast, we'll be there shortly!"
The veteran actor noted: "As we count down the AC-12 return, what a joy it is to know that the central trio will be back filming soon."
"Delighted with the announcement and looking forward to those unexpected twists and turns."
Show History
The drama premiered in 2012 and became one of the most popular television series of the last decade, featuring notable actors such as Kelly Macdonald.
Broadcasters has not yet announced when the new season will premiere.
The conclusion of season six brought the long-running storyline about the hunt for criminal mastermind known as "the mysterious H" to a conclusion, and the creative team indicated at the moment there were no plans for additional seasons.
Nevertheless, the network announced on this week that a seventh series is now in development.
