Los Angeles Experiences Unprecedented High Temperatures Only One Week After Major Winter Storm.
Following a week of significant rainfall that caused flooding across areas in the city, LA is now grappling with unseasonably high conditions for late February.
Record-Shattering Heat
During the day Friday, the temperature climbed to 91°F (33°C) in downtown Los Angeles, according to meteorologists. This breaks the prior high for February 27th, which was eighty-eight degrees Fahrenheit and was established just last year.
"Exceptionally warm weather" were labeled on official charts for the region.
Public Health Alerts
Forecasters stated that Friday's heat posed an "higher threat for heat illness" for people sensitive to heat. Their recommendations featured:
- Keeping well-hydrated.
- Reducing outdoor activities during the hottest part of the day.
- Never leaving anyone unattended in a car.
An Extreme Weather Swing
This sharp rise in heat comes on the heels of a powerful winter storm that pummeled the area last week. That system brought heavy snow, strong winds, and thunderstorms to higher elevations, causing mudslide risks for many residents.

Temperatures Easing
Forecasters predict some relief is coming. The heat were predicted to drop to around sixty-one degrees Fahrenheit in the city by Friday night.
Additional areas that hit ninety degrees included Woodland Hills, Long Beach, and Burbank. Meanwhile, Oxnard, Westwood, Camarillo, and Santa Maria were projected to reach the high eighties.
For the weekend, central Los Angeles can see weather in the 80s, with mid-70s temperatures likely for the following week.
