Manchester United Poised to Sign German Striker Lea Schüller from Bayern Munich

Manchester United are finalising sealing the deal for prolific Germany striker Lea Schüller in a permanent move away from Bayern Munich.

A Major Signing for the WSL Side

Schüller, who has half a year left on her contract, is known as a prolific goalscorer for her club and the national team. Having netted over 100 goals for the German giants and found the net 54 times in 82 caps for her country. This signing will be seen as a major signing for the Women’s Super League side.

Her exit from Munich was expected after she appeared to be fighting back tears while thanking the German club’s fans following a win over Bayer Leverkusen recently.

It was reported in late December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was set to lose one of its leading forwards. According to reports, all the paperwork for the move have now been completed.

Consistent Goalscoring to Strengthen United's Attack

The experienced striker's arrival should represent a major uplift to the team's attacking options. She has been remarkably consistent in front of goal in the Bundesliga.

  • Over seven consecutive seasons, up to and including the last term, she reached at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
  • She won the top scorer award in the 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.

Gathering Steam at Carrington

Securing Schüller’s signature comes at a time when United seem to be gathering momentum.

Their recent performances feature qualifying for the European knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a win in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.

Off the pitch, the mid-season window has brought further activity:

  1. The signing of Sweden right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
  2. The contract extension for Japanese midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, who has become fan favourite since joining in 2023.

On the midfielder's extension, a club official commented: “Miyazawa is now a critical part to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and skill enables her and the team to dominate play from central areas.”

Lundkvist, who has joined from a side from the American league, added: “You can feel how much they [United] have progressed in the last few years, competing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and performing in the Champions League.”
