Arsenal's manager remains confident that his side can persist in handling with player absences after confirming that forward Kai Havertz is not ready for several more weeks.

Extended Absence for German Star

The Germany international has been absent since August after undergoing an operation on his knee. Originally slated to return sooner, the manager stated the player encountered a problem when advancing his rehabilitation and failed to reach “the required stage.”

“We learned, and we were able to put together a group that is far more dependable and has more options,” Arteta said.

Tactical Decisions for Brentford Clash

This news creates a dilemma for the midweek home game against Brentford. The manager needs to decide between sticking with Mikel Merino, who found the net in an unfamiliar forward role on Sunday, or recalling Viktor Gyökeres, who made a return off the bench as a substitute. Long-term absentee Gabriel Jesus is also an option post-recovery.

Defensive Concerns Remain

More doubts surround defender William Saliba and winger Leandro Trossard, who sat out the Stamford Bridge game. As a result, new recruits Cristhian Mosquera and Piero Hincapié are expected to start again in the backline for the league leaders.

Questioned if more options was aiding their championship push, his response was positive. “Yes, because this season has seen more issues in the attacking line, and now the problems with the backline,” he noted.

“Our previous experiences taught us that we need to utilize players in alternative spots, and they have to be able to adapt to new tasks if we aim to challenge at the highest level. And the case of Mikel Merino.”

Speaking about the setback noted by Germany manager Julian Nagelsmann, Arteta provided further detail. “He was doing everything. He was unable to progress to the next level and now the signs are like we have solved that issue.”
