The golfing superstar celebrates Spoty success with individual and team awards.

Seconds before the announcement, a nervous thought darted through Rory McIlroy's mind. He admitted he was hoping, "Please don't let it be a Formula 1 star this time."

"It's been a fantastic night for golf," McIlroy declared. "The sport was recognized in such a significant way, with the team winning and then with my award. It's a special evening for golf, and with any luck we can use that."

This time around, however, there was no late twist. The result was clear, allowing a overjoyed McIlroy to enjoy a blockbuster evening for both himself and the team winners, who were named the top squad.

Constant Motion

Choosing not to attend the aftershow party, McIlroy was already thinking about his immediate plans. After played in the Golf Channel Games in Florida and jetted to the UK, he was heading straight back to the sunshine state.

"It's been a hectic 24 hours," McIlroy explained. "I'm looking forward to a little bit of downtime over Christmas."

Drive to Improve

However, McIlroy made clear he has no intention to slow down, notwithstanding securing the career grand slam earlier in the year. "I still feel I've got a few good years in me," he asserted.

"Further big titles, tour championships, team competitions, that's great. But provided that you feel like you can keep getting better and have the hunger, that's the key."

Squad Celebration

Elsewhere, teammate Tommy Fleetwood, who was on stage to accept the team award, also lauded golf's stellar night and his pal's award.

"Those are the times that will live with us forever so to get the fan's acknowledgment for that is truly special," he commented. "Witnessing it Rory win, I think he is so worthy so much."

Upon hearing that McIlroy was only the third in his sport to win the award in its 71-year history, Fleetwood smiled before adding, "We're not the most popular are we!"

Looking Ahead

He is aiming to finally win his first major next year but he understands McIlroy still craves more success. "If you want to be the best you can be, and you're still inspired, you'll find things to enhance," Fleetwood explained.

Football Loyalty

As he was leaving, a last query came up. As a huge Manchester United fan, he has been requested to display his trophies at Old Trafford before. Would he be convinced to do it again after his latest triumphs?

"If they stop conceding multiple scores in Manchester," he replied with a smile. "Improvements are being made. There's a hint of optimism around."

After a 2025 for the ages, it's no wonder that Rory McIlroy is seeing the upside.
