The Gory Animated Film Ending That Lingers Audiences
Out of every mature animated films I’ve ever viewed, no other has lingered in my mind quite like the terror-laced conclusion of the viscerally violent and overwhelingly transgressive film from 2022 Unicorn Wars.
Back in 2015’s, this Spanish filmmaker crafted a dark, bleak and often savage universe with several minor , desolate glimmers of hope.
While The Unicorn Wars appears as it came from an impulse to expand the medium further, the filmmaker explained that it was rather an attempt to convey a universal, cross-cultural theme concerning “the mutual source of every conflict.”
That message is communicated via a group of vividly colored bears , openly inspired by a famous line of lovable figures.
Growing up in a society centered on militarism and the military-industrial complex, a lot of the bears are fixated on slaughtering the mythical beasts, due to a holy book that claims the bears they used to be masters of the woodland, until the horned beings expelled them.
A few haven’t fully fallen for the propaganda, , choose to experiment with drugs or mate in the forest.
Unlike their friendly equivalents, these bright beings show sexual organs , obvious libidos.
For one particularly cruel, pessimistic creature, Bluey, the war with unicorns transforms into a route to control — and particularly to dominance over his gentler, kinder brother Tubby.
This bear is a bully , an apparent psychopath , and while terror overcomes his squad and takes his fellow soldiers one by one, he grabs increasingly control for himself, via progressively violent, damaging approaches.
Simultaneously, the horned creatures are experiencing their own nightmare, in the form of an expanding, harmful creature in their habitat.
“At the beginning, it feels like a comedy,” the director said. “However it turns into a more intense and sorrowful movie. And by the end, it transforms into a scary feature.”
The Unicorn Wars starts out resembling among the quirky films by a renowned animator, which find a mischievous joy in letting animated figures swear, engage in violence, or sex each other up.
Subsequently it evolves into more akin to a darker film by that same artist, featuring progressively graphic violence , a tangible relation to genuine suffering of battle.
In the finale, it becomes a full-on theatrical horror massacre.
The horror which makes the film a perfect Halloween viewing begins a lot earlier than one might expect.
The Unicorn Wars is ideal for the hardcore fans of gore, for fans of graphic films who desire to see a movie they haven’t ever viewed until now, and are able to withstand a narrative that pulls no restraint.
Watch it in a dark room free from interruptions, and that ending will dig deep within you and stay with you.
