The Latest Casual Playlist Sparks Intense Discussions Over Bots, XP Rewards, and Wait Times
Recently, Battlefield Studios launched a fresh game mode called Casual Breakthrough. To put it simply, this mode resembles the regular Breakthrough format but includes a few notable changes:
- Each team includes only 8 human participants, with the rest filled by 32 bots.
- Activities performed by real players award complete experience points, while bot actions provide lower rewards.
- Just a pair of maps can be played: Siege of Cairo and Empire State.
- Features like Player tags, accolades, and stat tracking have been turned off.
In short, this mode lives up to its name: it's a laid-back version of Breakthrough. At face value, one could assume it's a good idea, since it provides additional choices for players seeking alternative ways to have fun with the game. However, gaming history have taught us anything, it's that not everyone will be happy. Which is to say, many BF6 players are mad.
Player Reactions: From Fury to Support
"People want human opponents. Don't repeat the errors of your competitors," reads one reply to the mode reveal. "Absolutely shocking idea," comments another. Meanwhile, in community forums, a player notes, "I have no idea where we are headed with this game," while someone else lists all the issues they consider to be problematic in Battlefield 6: "Fix bugs, address drone issues, fix IVF rockets, adjust aiming after sprinting, improve hit detection. We don't need this bot mode."
On the other hand, amid the criticism, there are players sharing how much they're liking the recent addition. "It's very fun to practice, real players keep it from being a complete grind but it's quite laid-back," says a forum post. "This subreddit fails to see that there are gamers who have lives and don't play this game all the time. Let them strike a balance," adds a different comment. A response on Twitter explains that as they're "a parent gamer with busy schedules, this is perfect for me," while someone else applauds the mode for "not being overcompetitive."
Constructive Concerns and Player Input
Despite the support, there are constructive reasons to complain about Casual Breakthrough. Some users have pointed out that it could increase wait times even longer for different playlists due to the large amount of playlists in the game already. Similarly, certain regions already encounter AI-filled matches in the current modes. It also seems somewhat counterintuitive that the mode won't start without a required amount of human gamers, despite it primarily centers on combat against bots.
Finally, a major complaints is that Battlefield Portal was promised to provide full XP, including AI matches, but that was removed when they attempted to eliminate XP farming from the system. So Casual Breakthrough seems like the community compromising halfway, according to forum feedback. A different user labels this mode as the developers "making a mistake so hard, I had great enjoyment in the initial release, why did they feel the need to change it?"
Looking Ahead: Adjustments Occur?
If the development team has demonstrated something so far with Battlefield 6, it is that they're paying attention and acting on player input. Assignments being too difficult were adjusted very quickly, just like the specific battle pass objectives. It is likely that, should analytics indicates this recent mode is underperforming to their expectations, they won't be shy to make further modifications.
